Introductions, anyone?

Now that we have, ah, four people in this very, um, meagre community, wouldn't it be nice if we all introduce ourselves a bit? Get the proverbial ball rolling?

As for myself, I dropped out of a composition degree at the Canberra School of Music, ANU, two years ago now after plunging from High Distinctions to Fails across all my subjects. Not to play sour grapes, as I could have passed had I wanted to just give the academic staff what they wanted but it became increasingly clear that the "institution" was not for me.

Now I work in an office, behind a desk, typing most of my days. I still have sporadic ideas, but never seem to act on them :-D I enjoy music, especially noisy, modern/contemporary, electronic, well, anything interesting, dance, performance, etc, etc. I'd love to be performing or at least doing something again, and I guess the whole point of this tribe is to bring together similar minds out there and perhaps be motivated enough to collectively do something.

Diploma.... what is it good for?

I attended Buffalo State college and the Art Institute of Pitt., PA. I find that I have been painting more on my own than I had ever before in school. Many artists have degrees, but that is no guarantee of success. I have found though that having a degree is a pedigree. You are no more an artist with or without that piece of paper. More importantly that piece of paper will not make you a great!

3 time art school drop out & proud of it!!!

Hi to all~Art school for me was an easy choice(father was self taught)but difficult to endure due to the bull. Made 3 attempts to obtain degree-even changing major once. Didn't realize that all the phoney baloney posturing is exactly like the real art world. Have no credentials, resume is "sketchy"(also feel most of those are contrived), am gaining somewhat on getting "out there". Had an old professor tell me recently "you should be showing-forget about the degree-lots of artists succeed without it...". Time will tell-one thing, NOT painting for 15 years has taught me is that I really do want to be an artist when I grow up.

Dropped out of Art, Music, Design, etc school? Feel bitter? better? releived? asleep? Dregs of the artistic world, bring your triumphs and greivances here.

Diss the institution or praise it, whether you end up the darling of the fringe scene or a lowly public servant, if you've fallen through the cracks of the creative institutional fold, join up and speak up.
